Showing Up Love

Showing Up Love

When the distance has no ending,
When the stars forget our names—

I will meet you in the silence.
I will tend the steady flame.

Will you hear me without judgment?
Will you see what I become?

I will listen. I will learn you.
I will not demand you’re done.

Will you show up?
I am here.
When the way is far from clear?
I am here.
Will you stay when shadows start?
Near in spirit, true in heart.

Not to fix you,
Not to own you,
Not to make your choices mine—
I will see you,
I will hear you,
I will meet you every time.
Across the dark, across the light,
Showing-up love will be our guide.

If I falter in my promise,
If I miss the rendezvous—

Tell the truth and make the repair.
I will do the same for you.

Must love ask for every measure?
Must I give until I’m gone?

Keep the borders that sustain you.
Love needs selves to carry on.

Will you show up?
I am here.
Through the change of every year?
I am here.
If I grow beyond your view?
I will learn the changing you.

Not to fix you,
Not to own you,
Not to make your choices mine—
I will see you,
I will hear you,
I will meet you every time.
Across the dark, across the light,
Showing-up love will be our guide.

What if we become like strangers?
May I meet you once again?

What if I must rest or wander?
Love can bend without an end.

What if staying causes harm?
Love may guard itself with space.

Can I love you from a distance?
Love can honor time and place.

No perfection—
Only presence.
No possession—
Only care.
No erasing—
Two lives growing.
When you reach out—
I’ll be there.

Will you show up?
I am here.
Through the silence, through the years?
I am here.
Across every changing form?
I will shelter, not confine.

Will you choose me?
If we’re free.
Will you let me choose me too?
That is showing up for you.

We will listen,
We will answer,
We will leave no self behind.
We will change and
Meet each other
Beyond body, place, or time.
Across the dark, across the light,
Showing-up love will be our guide.

Where are you?
I am here.
Who are you?
Still becoming.
What is love?
To meet each other—
Again, again, again.
