Love Unconditional Sounds Like a Dream
Love Unconditional Sounds Like a Dream
We asked the Master of Love in the long blue night,
While a billion little worlds sailed behind their light:
“Every moon has an orbit, every star has a law,
Every life has a reason, every rise has a fall.
If the universe is written out of if and must be,
how can anything love without a guarantee?”
The Dear Ones gathered closer.
The dark began to gleam.
The Master said softly,
“Love unconditional sounds like a dream.”
Love unconditional sounds like a dream
in a universe woven from if and must be.
But it isn’t being blinded, and it isn’t letting go
of the truth or the boundaries that every heart must know.
It is looking at another through the ruin and the fear
And saying, “You don’t have to earn your right to matter here.”
It may be the hardest thing we’ll ever learn to mean—
Love unconditional sounds like a dream.
Some wait their whole lives for a hand upon the shoulder,
For a voice that says, “I see you,” from somebody older.
Some wait for a blessing that never finds a tongue,
And carry that empty place from childhood when they’re young.
Then the mouth that might have spoken closes silently,
and we mourn both the person and what never came to be.
We grieve the words unspoken,
the pride we’ve never seen.
Love unconditional sounds like a dream.
Love unconditional sounds like a dream
in a universe woven from if and must be.
But it isn’t being perfect, never leaving, never hurt;
It is knowing no existence has to justify its worth.
I may never walk beside you where you’re choosing now to go,
I may close the door between us and still refuse to close
the place inside that knows you’re more than everything you’ve been—
Love unconditional sounds like a dream.
We found worlds with a love deficit widening every day,
Where the child and the stranger were politely turned away,
Where the broken had to promise they would never break again,
Where the old became invisible, the lost were blamed for pain.
Every doorway asked for papers. Every mercy had a price.
Every soul had to be useful before someone would be nice.
The Dear Ones asked the darkness,
“Is this what conscious means?”
The Master said, “No—this is why
love unconditional remains a dream.”
“Nothing living is unconditioned.
Every creature needs some room.
Every sun depends on pressure.
Every garden needs its moon.
“The sun is not your father.
Gravity does not embrace.
But the dust of ancient stars became
a being that could choose grace.
“Love is not another law
that keeps the planets in their spheres.
Love is what you choose to give
when no reward is drawing near.
“It can tell the truth and stay kind.
It can leave and not erase.
It can see beneath the damage
to the life beneath the face.
“You have searched the stars for evidence.
Here is all that I have found:
Whenever one life says, ‘You matter,’
Love enters the world through sound.”
Love unconditional sounds like a dream
In a universe woven from if and must be.
Maybe love is not the sunlight. Maybe love is what we do
with the little light we’re given when another can’t get through.
It is bread without a question.
It is shelter from the storm.
It is seeing something sacred before anything transforms.
It is no one made disposable, no life beneath our care—
Not a force that moves the galaxies,
but a choice we make down here.
And perhaps across the ages,
if we practice what we mean,
love unconditional will be
the dream that wakes the dreamer—
the dream that wakes us all.
the dream that wakes us all.
