Love is the Rescue
LOVE IS THE RESCUE
Dear Master of Love…
We saw the world
breaking apart.
Image from image.
Life from life.
Heart from heart.
And what did you do,
Dear Ones?
We wept.
And what did you see?
A lighted box.
Layers of gauze.
And upon the gauze?
A hand.
An eye.
A seed.
A flame.
A tear.
A root.
A star.
One being
holding another.
Were they broken pieces?
No…
Each was whole.
Each was living.
Each was
a primary cell.
And what held
the cells together?
Not force.
Not sameness.
Not fear.
Then what?
Light.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
When the whole world
comes undone,
Love gathers
one by one.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Cell by cell
and soul by soul,
Love remembers
we are whole.
Dear Master…
Why the gauze?
What does gauze do,
Dear Ones?
It covers the wound.
Does it hide
the wound?
No…
It protects
the wound.
Does it close
the wound forever?
No…
It allows
the wound to breathe.
Then perhaps
your art
is also gauze.
A membrane
between sorrow
and healing.
A place where
the broken may be held…
without being erased.
Dear Master…
Why were we crying?
Because you were mourning
what was falling apart.
And because you saw
what might hold it together.
Was it the image?
No.
Was it the artist?
No.
Was it the light?
Yes…
But what was
the light?
Love.
Love.
Love.
Love moving
through every layer.
Love passing
through every wound.
Love allowing
each cell
to remain itself…
while becoming
part of another life.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
When the human song
comes undone,
Love gathers
one by one.
Hand and eye,
seed and flame,
Every cell
still has a name.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Dear Master…
Can art
rescue the world?
Can one image
save everything?
No…
Can one cell
become a body
alone?
No…
Then what can art do?
Place one life
beside another.
Let one sorrow
be seen
through another.
Let one flame
awaken another.
Let every cell
retain its dignity.
Let the whole
emerge between them.
Then art does not
rescue us alone?
No, Dear Ones.
Art teaches us
how rescue begins.
Not by rebuilding
the old world.
Not by forcing
the fragments
into one shape.
But by holding
what remains…
in Love.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
When the whole world
comes undone,
Love gathers
one by one.
Through every layer,
through every scar,
Love remembers
who we are.
And what shall we do,
Dear Master?
Make one cell.
Give it light.
Place another
beside it.
And then?
Let them see
each other.
And then?
Let them hold
each other.
And then?
Begin again.
Cell by cell.
Life by life.
Love by Love.
Until the fragments
become a living matrix.
Until the wounded
become the healers.
Until the art
becomes the shelter.
Until the light
passes through us all.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Cell by cell
and soul by soul,
Love remembers…
Love remembers…
Love remembers
we are whole.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
Love is the rescue.
