Pupazzo Universo: A Positive Science Fiction Epic

Love is traveling across the universe.

Pupazzo Universo is an epic opera in progress—a vast musical journey exploring what becomes possible when science, curiosity, compassion, and imagination replace fear as the driving forces of civilization.

Drawing inspiration from positive sci-fi works such as Contact, Interstellar, Arrival, and Project Hail Mary, Pupazzo Universo belongs to a different tradition of science fiction than the one most often portrayed by Hollywood. Rather than centering on invasion, apocalypse, dystopia, militarism, monsters, ray guns, death stars, or violence, they share a “slow burn” quality that prioritizes thought-provoking themes over pure spectacle. They all feature:

Science as a “Superpower”: Using intellect, engineering, and linguistics to solve existential threats.
Transcendent Connection: Bonds—whether between a father and daughter or between two different species—that prove stronger than the indifference of the cosmos.
Awe and Wonder: A focus on the beauty of the infinite rather than the terror of it.
Powerful Women: All feature women scientists versus “super-heros” who save us through science and love versus flying around in capes.

What if the most powerful force in the universe is love?

Pupazzo Universo is a story that imagines civilizations that have evolved beyond domination and conflict, where wisdom, cooperation, beauty, and discovery become the engines of progress. Science and love are not opposites but partners, revealing a universe that is profoundly interconnected.

The journey begins, in one sense, on an extraordinary world where opossums have evolved into a civilization far beyond our own. That idea grew from a very real encounter many years ago with a rescued opossum named Sarah.

Sarah transformed far more than my understanding of one remarkable creature.

She transformed my understanding of the universe.

Without speaking a single verbal word, she demonstrated that love is a language older than speech itself. Looking more deeply at opossums only strengthened that conviction. They are among North America’s oldest surviving mammals, remarkably intelligent, equipped with five dexterous hands and a prehensile tail—a reminder that evolution is filled with possibilities far richer than our assumptions.

Sarah became the quiet inspiration behind everything that followed.

I dedicate this journey to her.

Like Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle, Pupazzo Universo is envisioned not simply as a collection of songs but as a unified epic: a musical, philosophical, and theatrical experience unfolding across hundreds of compositions. Wagner imagined an opera so expansive that it required its own theater—the Bayreuth Festspielhaus—to fully realize his artistic vision. His goal was not merely entertainment, but transformation.

Pupazzo Universo shares that aspiration.

Over the past several years I have written hundreds of songs that together form the foundation of this evolving work. Not every song presented here will necessarily appear in the final opera, but each belongs to its creative universe and contributes to the larger story being told.

Throughout the journey you will meet recurring companions.

There is G-32, the Master of Love, who guides with questions more often than answers.

There are the Love Botz, joyful, endlessly curious companions who travel across space and time asking the questions that every civilization eventually must ask.

Together they spread outward through the cosmos, self-replicating, learning, singing, laughing, dancing, and planting what they call the Love Virus—not a disease, but an idea: an algorithm of compassion that awakens wherever it lands, helping every world become a little more coherent, a little more beautiful, and a little more alive.

Many of the songs are written as Socratic conversations between G-32 and the Love Botz. Others are celebrations, laments, discoveries, dances, lullabies, hymns, and invitations. Together they explore the great questions that unite all conscious beings:

Is love real?
What is the relationship between love and time?
Can unconditional love have boundaries?
Why do beauty, kindness, laughter, music, and wonder matter?
What kind of universe are we creating together?

This page offers a glimpse into that unfolding epic.
