Teach Me to Sing a Song of Love
Teach Me to Sing About Love
I’ve heard a thousand worlds in bloom,
I’ve heard their moons keep time—
Their cradle songs, their freedom songs,
Their hearts in every line.
But when the room grows still for me,
My music disappears.
If love can turn a world around,
Why am I frozen here?
“My voice is small, my whole being shakes—
What if the silence stays?”
“A trembling note is still a note.
Let love begin that way.”
Teach me to sing about love,
Teach me to open my heart.
“You don’t have to carry the whole wide sky—
Just carry one light through the dark.
You don’t have to thunder above.
You don’t have to sing like they do.
Dear One, don’t only sing about love—
Let love sing through you.”
“We never sang to conquer worlds.
We never made them ours.
We sang until the lonely ones
Remembered they were stars.
A song of love grows wider still
With every voice let in.
No voice must fade for yours to rise—
That’s where the change begins.”
“But what if I should lose the tune?
What if my voice should break?”
“Then break it open, break it true—
That’s how a heart awakes.”
Before a word was written down,
Before the flutes of bone,
One voice went searching through the dark;
One answered, “Not alone.”
From lullaby to freedom cry,
From mourning into dawn,
Love has always crossed the night
By giving breath a song.
This is the Lovolution:
No voice too small to belong.
Love never asks us to sound the same—
Love turns our difference to song.
Teach me to sing about love,
Teach me to open my heart.
“You don’t have to carry the whole wide sky.”
“I’ll carry one light through the dark.”
“You don’t have to thunder above.”
“I only have to be true.”
“Dear One, don’t only sing about love.”
“I’ll let love sing through.”
One trembling note,
One answering tone,
And no one sang alone.
The universe had heard a thousand songs—
Now it had heard my own.
